Convert WebP to JPG

WebP is common on the web and awkward in older editors and print workflows. This page converts it to JPEG on your device.

JPG, PNG or WebP · up to 10 images · 20 MB per file · 50 MB in total

Applies to JPEG and WebP only. PNG is lossless.

JPEG cannot store transparency. Transparent areas are filled with this colour.

The file extension always matches the real encoded format.

Processing happens locally in this browser. Images are not uploaded. Re-encoding can change quality and removes metadata such as EXIF/GPS; a file that is returned unchanged keeps its original metadata.

What changes when WebP becomes JPEG

  • The output is real JPEG: after encoding, the file signature is checked, so a browser that silently falls back to PNG cannot hand you a mislabelled file.
  • WebP can store transparency and JPEG cannot. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour — white by default. Pick another colour if the image will sit on a dark surface.
  • Quality 90 is preselected. Lower values shrink the file and start to show around fine text and sharp edges; the comparison shows the difference before you download.
  • Animated WebP is rejected with a message rather than silently reduced to its first frame.
  • The file dialog on this page is preset to WebP. Other formats are converted too, but they belong on the general converter page.

Converting WebP to JPG

  1. Add one or more WebP files.
  2. The output format is already set to JPEG and the background to white. Adjust the colour if the transparency should become something else.
  3. Process, compare, download. The file name ends in .jpg because the bytes really are JPEG.

Questions about WebP and JPEG

Does the conversion lose quality?

Yes, slightly. WebP is itself often lossy, and JPEG compresses again. At quality 90 the difference is usually hard to see; the comparison view is there so you can decide.

Why is my JPEG larger than the WebP?

WebP compresses photographs better than JPEG at similar quality. The result view reports the real sizes — including when the new file is larger.

What happens to an animated WebP?

It is rejected with a clear message. Exporting only the first frame would quietly destroy most of the content.

Can I go back from JPG to WebP?

Yes, on the conversion page: choose WebP as the output format. The file loses the original WebP encoding quality, of course — it is a re-encode.
